Many national window franchises and discount installers use the term lifetime as a selling tool. In reality, these warranties often come with big disclaimers:

• • Coverage is only valid for as long as you own the home—and usually non-transferable.

• • Fine print excludes “normal wear and tear,” caulking, or settling issues.

• • Companies reserve the right to repair instead of replace, even if the workmanship was poor.

• • Warranty claims are often denied or delayed with little accountability.

• • If the business shuts down, the warranty disappears with it.

Plenty of frustrated homeowners have shared reviews describing:

• • Unreturned calls after installation problems appeared.

• • Leaks and drafts within the first few years, with no follow-up service.

• • Warranty denial based on vague exclusions.

The harsh truth? A “lifetime warranty” is only as good as the company still being around—and willing—to honor it.  High-end dealers (selling Andersen, Pella, Marvin, etc.) often provide stronger labor warranties than “the lowest cost” installers, but they usually cap them at 5–10 years instead of “lifetime.”
